In 1980, the "Teahouse" troupe set off from Beijing to perform in theaters in Europe. They traveled to three countries – Germany, France, and Switzerland – over a 50-day period, staging more than 20 performances. This marked the first time that a modern Chinese theater drama was performed abroad, sparking a huge response in the Western world. At this year's Changchun Film Festival, CGTN's Zhou Yixin interviewed veteran actor Li Guangfu. Li reminisced about that legendary tour of Europe. He said despite the barriers of geography, language and time, the overseas audiences understood the story told in "Teahouse," and gained a deeper understanding of China through the play.
